Much of what science fiction writers once described has already become reality. But until now, studying the Bradbury worlds, we can only imagine: what is it like to walk on Mars or how to change our DNA. Biotechnologists bring fantasy closer to reality.
The MSU Science Park has an acceleration program "Formula BIOTECH 2016", which helps prepare the technologies of tomorrow. Many of these technologies will enter people's everyday life only after decades, but the groundwork for them has already been made.
Colony on Mars
Traveling to Mars is a dream of many people. But there are also more daring ideas. Establish a colony settlement on the red planet. American engineer Elon Musk is developing the idea of a manned flight and landing of the first group of colonists in the next 10 years.
To carry out this flight, it is necessary to prepare a preparation for normal breathing. The oxygen content on Mars is only 0.2%, which is 100 times less than on Earth. Biotechnologists are proposing a filter mask that converts carbon dioxide into oxygen. The task now is one - to bring this project to mind so that oxygen is generated in the required volume.
The mask itself weighs no more than 100 grams, as it is made of polymers. At the same time, it protects against sunburn, aerosols, winds of an unfriendly Mars. The first colonists will be forced to settle in the open "sky", because the mask is simply necessary.
Artificial doctor
If we return from heaven to Earth, then, first of all, humanity is concerned about biotechnologists and the state of health of modern people. Ecology, lifestyle, food system - lead to the emergence of a complex of diseases. At the same time, many people seek treatment too late, when it is very difficult to defeat the disease. Scientists propose an "artificial brain" program that will diagnose the disease at an early stage.
The program operates on the basis of a person's biometric data, the results of his medical examination: ECG, indicators of height and weight, age. By analyzing all the indicators, the system gives the result: the likelihood of a disease, the development of chronic diseases and recommendations for prevention.
Systems are built on the principle of neural networks that are devoid of human emotionality. The undoubted advantage of networks is their self-learning. They collect information, explore new advances and discoveries, progress and make decisions. In the future, they will replace diagnostic doctors.
Pajama diagnostics
Another medical development of the future is pajamas that scan the condition of the body. The male version is striped pajamas. For women - a jumpsuit with polka dots. The data from the screening pajamas with sensors transmits to a large pink ball, which will spontaneously roll around the room. It is simply impossible to lose it.
The scanning depth is 25 cm, as a result a 3D model of the organism is created. The home server analyzes every cell, memorizes, studies in dynamics. No pathology escapes the watchful eye of pajamas.
There is already a prototype for such a suit. It remains to wait for it to appear on sale.
Change organs like gloves
Diagnostics of the body can fade into the background if it becomes possible to replace organs. Regenerative medicine has already found a source of tissue for new organs - stem cells. We also found a way to implement it - 3D bioprinting. It remains only to combine the existing knowledge with the achievements in transplantation. After all, it is not enough to "print" the heart, you need to make it work in the rhythm of the body. So far, only a nanoplasma sensor can fully study the state of an organ. It can help improve the safety of artificial organs.
Chipization
Imagine that you can turn off a headache or hiccups with the power of thought. Scientists propose to implant bioelectronic devices into organs that will travel through the body and constantly report on the state of health, thus preventing the development of dangerous pathologies.
Fantastic, many will say about all the projects described. But think, even 50 years ago, no one believed in the emergence of wireless technologies, self-driving cars, artificial intelligence. And now we are actively using these inventions. So why don't we believe now that soon we will be able to freely get a new heart, settle on Mars, or diagnose health with the help of ordinary pajamas?
